Staying organised is really important to me, if I feel like I don’t have my planner and my to-do lists, I literally feel like my world is crumbling around me. I go a little overboard with my planning, I will be the first to admit I have way too many positive stickers, coloured pens and rolls of washi tape to make me feel like I have my life together.
I would now consider myself a seasoned planner, so I thought I would share my tips to getting organised as f*ck.
Wake up one hour earlier
The thought of waking up an hour earlier feels disgusting when you’re setting your alarm for 5:00am but it can be one of the most helpful things you can do to get yourself more organised. If you allow yourself a little extra time in the mornings, you can actually get a lot done when the world is still sleepy. It’s quieter, so limited distraction and you can set yourself up well for the day. Sometimes I will get myself a coffee and sit with my journal and jot down a few thoughts to ’empty my brain’ for a busy day.
Plan your day
Everyday I spend a least 10 – 15 minutes writing two types of to-do lists. The first being ‘the master list’ and the second being the ‘urgent list’ I will separate the most important tasks, from the ones I need to keep an eye on but if I don’t get that specific thing done that day. I always make these lists as realistic as possible, if I won’t have time to get it done that day, it can sit on the master list a few days.
Alongside this, I will review my schedule for the day, ensure I have planned for any meetings I have and check out what I have in the evening.
I’m all for the traditional planner, paper and pen. Everyone is different and many of my friends use the calendar on their phone or I have heard Google offer a good planning system. Fill your planner with your meetings, social events and things you need to remember, that way you can check in with it daily and not miss a thing.
